'Cupping' is an ancient form of Chinese therapy in which a glass, bamboo, or plastic cup is applied to the skin. Pressure is then reduced in the cup by either heat or suction to draw the skin inside. This method is applied to certain trigger or acupuncture points on the body, or to areas that have been affected by pain or muscle/fascia tightness. This action draws blood from your vessels into your tissue and 'tricks' your body into thinking it has an injury, forcing it to 'jumpstart' a positive inflammatory response by mobilising antibodies to the area to try to heal it. After a short consultation, the treatment begins with a deep tissue massage, followed by cups being applied to the key areas of concern for approximately 10-15 minutes.
